The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, will remain in custody until next month

This development was confirmed after a ruling by the Supreme Court on Thursday, April 27

Justice Okoro, alongside a five-man panel, made this decision while also adjourning further hearing until Thursday, May 11

FCT, Abuja - Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been handed an unfavourable ruling by the Supreme Court, granting the federal government permission to file more grounds for appeal against the agitator.As reported by The Nation, the federal government will now file an additional application suit against Kanu on nine grounds.

It was gathered that a five-man panel led by Justice John Okoro approved the motion for filing more grounds on Thursday, April 27.

Meanwhile, the legal counsel to the accused, Mike Ozekhime, claimed that his client had been ill and needed to be taken for a medical check-up at the correctional facility in Kuje.

As reported by the Vanguard newspaper, Justice Okoro adjourned the hearing of the case until Thursday, May 11.

Recall that Legit.ng reported that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has approached the Supreme Court over the stay of execution on the judgement discharging him.

This was noted in a fresh appeal filed by the IPOB leader before the apex court on Thursday, November 3.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu also confirmed that his client has taken steps to seek redress on the order of the appellate court.

Meanwhile, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

The governor also offered to act as a surety for the IPOB leader who remains in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Kanu has been in detention at the custody of DSS since 2021 on an allegation of a treasonable felony after he was brought back to Nigeria from Kenya.
